National Will Register

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

This is a letter the Certainty National Will Register has received from a member of the public.

So we finally get our Will sorted and can breathe a sigh of relief but where can we store it so it’s easily found? A Will can be easily lost if kept in the home as often happens when people move house, for example. There is also the added question of security; do you want other members of your family to have access to your Will?

Your Solicitor can keep your Will stored for you but the final step to completing the process is to have it registered with the National Will register. This National Will Register works in conjunction with the legal profession and ensures that when the time comes your Will can be quickly and easily located. Only the location of the will is registered (i.e. the solicitors office where the will is held) and this information remains private and confidential until you pass on with access granted only then to the next of kin and executors.

In a recent public survey commissioned by Certainty the UK’s National Will Register, 67% of people surveyed admitted that they didn’t know where their parents’ Wills are located and equally as concerning nearly a third of people’s wills who have died cannot be found.

Certainty are offering the UK’s general public the opportunity to either register their existing will for free if it was written prior to 1st Jan 2008 or to register a new will either via their solicitor or themselves online for a small fee.

Be Safe and use Certainty to register a will on the UK’s National Will Register.
