Should I Register a Will?
Friday, March 27th, 2009
This is a letter the Certainty National Will Register has received from a member of the public.
Although I’ve written my Will and it’s currently stored at my Solicitors office, I’m fully aware of the implications if my children were unaware of its location and could not find my Will. Over the years there’s a possibility for instance that the Solicitor could move away or even close offices leaving my children clueless to the fact that I’ve even written a Will.
Knowing that a large amount of Wills are lost, stolen or presumed never written, I’ve decided to register my Will so when the time comes it can easily be found. Thousands of next of kin apparently have difficulty locating loved ones Wills so although not compulsory to register a Will, it is certainly a good idea.
I’ve taken the time to write a Will so it makes perfect sense that I take this extra simple step which is equally as important as writing a Will. My solicitor is a member of the UK’s Will Register Certainty so they registered my Will for me with them. I was worried at first that the actual details of the Will would be stored online but this is not the case. Only the location of the Will is recorded. Apparently if a member of the public wants to register, it takes just 60 seconds to register a Will so there’s really no excuse for not taking this final step.
Be Safe and use Certainty to register a will on the UK’s National Will Register.
